All motorists, and not only others, are familiar with the drug with the official name WD 40. It is popularly nicknamed “vdshka” and is used as a universal remedy for displacing moisture, softening rust and removing corrosion from metal parts. With it you will definitely not have problems with frozen, stuck or jammed parts and mechanisms.
In everyday life, this drug has found wide use after it was discovered that it perfectly revives rusted and frozen locks. It easily penetrates into hard-to-reach places and the smallest cracks and crevices. And for all its popularity, it is also not cheap.
The composition that we are considering today is an experimental version of WD 40. The proposed proportion of chemical elements may change, and is not the final version, since the original composition of the “WD” remains a secret. Based on the known components, the author of the video proposes to make a mixture similar in characteristics to the known drug.
Making WD 40 with your own hands

Where did the idea come from?

This is all due to the considerable price of the original WD 40. A small bottle of 100 ml will cost about 200 rubles, and a large bottle of 400 ml will cost up to 400 rubles. Thanks to the aerosol, the consumption of the drug is quite high.
For rare home use, such expenses will not burden the budget. Motorists often have to resort to its help, and for mechanics from a car repair shop, where they use it in liters, this is quite an impressive load.
The approximate composition, known from the American Chemical Safety Data Sheet, includes:
  • 50% - solvent (white spirit);
  • 25% - displacer (carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide);
  • 15% - mineral oil.

The last 10% comes from secret ingredients called inerts. There is an assumption that these are wax-containing substances.
Let's try to repeat the wonderful WD (Water Displacement) water “displacement” solution.

Required Ingredients

  • White Spirit;
  • Refined gasoline;
  • Mineral oil;
  • Paraffin.

For the mixture you will need a 0.5 L plastic container with an air freshener spray or for watering flowers.

Preparing WD-40

We buy nephrases or petroleum solvents (White spirit and purified gasoline) at a hardware store or supermarket. They are inexpensive, around 50 rubles. Galosha gasoline is suitable as an active solvent with a low octane number.

As for the oil, you only need 75-100 ml. On occasion, you can ask your neighbor in the garage for this amount, because every motorist has a “duty” canister for refilling. Based on experience, mineral oil is the best option.

Paraffin, also a product of petroleum refining, is necessary as a water-repellent element that creates a film on the treated surface after applying the drug. Melt a small amount of it and add it to white spirit. Do not overdo it with the quantity, since in the cold it can lead to thickening of the entire composition.
Advice!
If the drug is used for automotive needs (loosening bolts, clamps, clamps, terminals, gaskets, etc.), paraffin does not need to be added. And for home use, for example, to clean dried or frozen keyholes, hinges, deadbolts, this ingredient will provide additional protection against moisture and corrosion.

A plastic bottle with a removable sprayer is ideal for applying the solution. Today they sell air fresheners, cosmetics and even medicines. You can also buy the puller separately and attach it to any suitable bottle.
Pour the oil into a bottle, followed by white spirit with or without paraffin and purified gasoline. The proportion is as follows:
  • White spirit – 4 mass fractions;
  • Refined gasoline (“Galosh”) – 3 mass fractions;
  • Mineral oil – 1 mass fraction.[list]
    It is most convenient to fill the container by dosing the ingredients with a syringe. Shake the prepared solution thoroughly and use it!

    Safety precautions

    Before preparing the drug at home, do not forget that its main components are extremely flammable. When mixing the solution and using it, wear protective gloves.
    Original WD 40 cannot be extinguished with water. The homemade mixture also contains a high content of flammable substances, which if ignited, water will not have any effect.
    Therefore, it is recommended to prepare and use the solution away from open sources of fire, heating devices and powerful lamps that emit heat. Ventilation must be provided in enclosed spaces.
    Otherwise, this recipe for preparing “vdshki” is quite acceptable and economical.One liter of solution costs about 100 rubles, not counting the cost of oil, which is easy to obtain, and paraffin waste (candles). And there are probably spray bottles in every household. A store-bought version in this volume will cost 1200-1500 rubles. There is something to compare and something to strive for!

    I’m not sure about something... WD-40 uses kerosene as a water substitute... And with paraffin... I’m not sure!...

      White spirit is kerosene of the highest purity; in the original VDshka, there is a mixture of liquid vaseline and paraffin fractions

        Dear Georgy! White spirit is not kerosene at all. This is nefras brands C4-150/200 - C4-155/200.
        Kerosenes are at the top of the gas oil fractions, and nephrases (petroleum solvents) are at the bottom of the naphtha fractions. Close, but on different steps.
        In your opinion, airplanes can fly on white spirit. Do you really think so? In fact, “highly purified kerosene” is RT grade kerosene (jet fuel) specifically for jet aircraft.

    Galosh gasoline is gasoline with a low, non-standardized octane number. Used as a solvent in the rubber industry.

    Why mix 2 gasoline solvents?

      Dear Boris! You are close to the truth, but you are wrong. Galoshes and white spirit are not gasoline at all, but nephrases (petroleum solvents). And both are in the range of naphtha fractions, not gasoline. But, Galosh is at the top of the table, and white spirit is at the very bottom. Nefras Galosha - nefras C2 80/120, nefras White Spirit - C4-(150-155)/200. Do you see the difference in distillation temperatures? That is why Galosha according to GOST 443-76 is certified as B-70 gasoline. Although this is a controversial issue. According to the motor method of analysis, its octane is 52, and this approximately corresponds to octane according to the research method of 68. Therefore, it would therefore be more correct to call it B-52 after the motorboat (in the jargon of oil depot workers it is called Bomber - i.e. Pindos bomber B-52). But according to the research method of analysis, its name should be Bi-70 (like Ai, but more precisely, Bi-68).

    I dilute the brake fluid and car oil (at least) I do it by eye, but it’s 50/50 somewhere, I put it in a syringe, put the needle on and voila. The needle easily fits into the lock in winter, and after 10 seconds.It opens like new, also a needle on the thread, wait a little and twist, and so on.

    one thing is bad - the bottle is plastic, if it cracks there could be a fire....
    Another thing is bad - it doesn’t contain surfactants (surfactants), maybe a little kerosene?
    What kind of surfactant can work in a hydrocarbon environment?
