I like things that make life simpler and easier. This device will help the welder and save him from unnecessary actions. We will talk about how to make a magnetic ground contact for a welder from an ordinary unnecessary speaker. I'll tell you more...

Typically, a clamp is used to attach a common ground wire to the metals being welded. Such a connection does not always provide a tight and reliable contact, and there are times when it is not entirely convenient. With the help of a magnetic contact, you can obtain a strong and reliable connection with a large cross-section in one movement, meaning a good contact area.

Will need

  • The dynamic head is naturally non-working.
  • Hairpin.
  • Cheburashka nut.
  • Washers.

Manufacturing of magnetic contact of welding cable

We disassemble the speaker, or rather, disconnect the magnet. To do this, you need to knock down the rivets. To do this, you can clamp the dynamic head in a lathe and bore it. Or just drill it out with a regular drill. In general, it's not difficult.

And the magnet comes off without any problems.

In my case, the core came off almost on its own.

If that doesn’t work for you, then heat it with a gas burner and pry it out with a screwdriver.

We take a piece of a hairpin 8-10 cm long and try it on the core. It will be attached like this.

We drill from the back side. The hole is not through, but approximately 80% of the total length.

We clamp it in a vice and cut a thread for the stud.

We put two nuts on the stud and tighten them together.

And now we screw this improvised bolt into the core to the maximum, you won’t have to turn it out anymore.

Now we tighten the nuts.

In order not to place the wire directly on the base, we first put on a small bushing and then a washer. Next is the welding wire.

We fix it on top with a washer and a wing nut.

Note the large contact area included.

Now let's put the magnet together.

For proper retention, you can put everything on glue or epoxy resin.

The magnetic contact is ready. Let's try welding. Place it on the sheet.

The clamping force is very good.

Welding proceeds without unnecessary red tape. No sparks fly from under the clamping area, everything is fixed perfectly.

"Improvised bolt" is called a hairpin, for the author's attention. By God, some kind of kindergarten. If a person has a head and his hands grow from the right place, he will understand both the idea and the design of this given picture. crafts. By the way, you can do without any drilling and threading - weld any suitable bolt to the core with a hexagon.

Where do you come from so smart? Can you read? The author calls a hairpin a hairpin! Open your eyes! And an improvised bolt means a stud assembly with nuts.

What's the matter!!!!??? I would go ahead and publish my own! And thanks to the author! Gave me an idea! And this is the main point!

During assembly, the gap must be maintained; it cannot be overlapped - these are the North and South poles of the magnet. If shorted, there will be magnetic shunting and the external field will weaken.
Before use, be sure to fill the annular gap from the magnetic coil with epoxy resin, otherwise iron filings and debris will accumulate there, reducing the effectiveness of the magnet.
Good idea, I'll definitely try it. The heat resistance of ferrite magnets is questionable...

Probably the people who suggest this are far from the welding process at all. Professional welders know very well what “magnetic blasting” is and have encountered such nasty things more than once. This is when you need to weld two parts together, but it doesn’t work out - the arc dances to the side, the metal doesn’t get into the bath, the visor turns out so that it gets boring. This comes from the magnetization of the workpieces (this does not apply to stainless steel, and the magnetic mass does not roll there). There are methods to combat this phenomenon, but why create a problem and then fight it?

At first I thought that my welding machine was out of order..... but it turned out that there was a powerful magnet lying nearby so all the molten metal scattered in all directions....

I am involved in welding and know first-hand about blasting, but nevertheless I use such a lot. It’s just not worth using it everywhere, and this opportunity is determined by using the brain smile If you are welding a large structure (the same gate, for example), using magnetic mass is much more convenient. And there are options when there is nowhere to attach the crocodile and welding anything to the structure is undesirable - in this case, you simply cannot do without magnetic mass

The magnet becomes magnetized: with a strong impact and HEATING, so that with close contact with the arc, “khan” will come quickly!

I made this device for myself. Where I work with welding, I also work with an angle grinder and all sorts of metal dust and shavings collect on this magnet, so I converted the mass back to a clamp with a spring. Do it, but you need to learn from other people’s mistakes.

Why all these manipulations, when in any welding shop there is a choice of magnetic masses - from 200 to 400 amperes and not expensive! and the welding cable, before attaching it to the ground, must be crimped with a copper or copper-plated tip to improve contact!

wow, here is a twisted rigid cable, heating is guaranteed. Since the author was getting confused, he could have pressed in the copper tip. And so the idea is normal...

Well, from improvised things and for free. What else could be the beauty of homemade products? Anyone who can go buy will never bother, unless he is a complete miser

Well done. It will help in some situations. I have had a garden gate on an iron gate for 10 years and no adjustments!
