But they have one acoustic drawback that irritates many people - tap water makes a loud noise when falling to the bottom. This is due to the fact that the wall thickness is only 0.4 to 1.2 mm.
There are several ways to improve the sound absorption of stainless steel sinks. Below we will look at one of them.

Our method is based on the use of a flexible self-adhesive car soundproofing mat. Its thickness is only about three millimeters. You can, of course, use other similar material.
You also need to stock up on the following materials and tools:
- medical alcohol or a degreaser with similar properties;
- cloth napkins;
- paint spatula;
- large scissors or a sharp knife.
Operating procedure
We unroll the soundproofing mat and give it time to rest and straighten out.Then we carefully inspect the surface to be pasted and remove all unnecessary things: stickers, packaging elements, adhered specks, etc.
Sometimes sinks have factory soundproofing elements in the form of small strips. Removing them or gluing new insulation over the existing one must be decided according to the circumstances.
If it is thin and holds firmly, then you can leave it, otherwise, remove it with a spatula and treat the area well with a cloth soaked in alcohol.
Now we will take the necessary measurements on the sink, transfer them to a soundproofing mat and cut them using powerful scissors or a sharp knife.
You can do it differently at this stage. First, we make a paper pattern, place it on the mat and trim according to the template.
With any method of cutting the rug, you should consider how and where the existing brackets or other fastening elements intended for mounting the sink are located.
Now we carry out final cleaning and degreasing with alcohol or a substance of similar properties to the surface of the sink, which is to be covered with sound-absorbing material.
Remove the backing from the cut rug and carefully glue it in place on the sink. After making sure that the mat is glued correctly, we press it to the surface to be glued using a paint roller or some other similar object.
Analysis
A legitimate question arises: what significantly reduced the noise from a stream of water falling into the sink? Is it really just a factor of its absorption by the mat material? Of course not. It also increased the rigidity of the shell bottom, and it remains to be seen which of these two factors contributed more to the overall result.
