An old car tire can be cut into thin strips. They are an excellent replacement for rope or cable. The stripes are also useful when weaving garden furniture.
What you will need:
- assembly knife with replaceable blades;
- wooden block;
- nails 100 mm or longer;
- thin sheet steel.
The process of dissolving tires into strips
After wetting the blade in water, you need to cut off the sidewalls from the tires. In this case, you need to pull the knife towards you. To prevent the blade from breaking, it must be extended a few notches, no more.
A longitudinal cut is made on a wooden beam with a hacksaw to a depth of 20 mm.
A strip of sheet steel bent twice lengthwise is driven into it. Instead, you can use a cut guide from an old mounting knife.
From the end of the beam it is supported by a pair of hammered and bent nails.
A nail is driven in to the right of the guide. The distance between them should be equal to the desired bandwidth. The blade is then inserted into the guide.
The cut sidewall from the tire is brought to the blade and, by turning in a circle, unraveled into a strip.The nail will serve as a limiter on the width of the cut. The sidewall opens up to the beginning of the side zone. It contains steel wire, so it cannot be cut.
Next, another nail is driven in, closer to the blade. Using it as a limiter, you can unravel strips of thickness into narrower and more flexible strips.
The resulting ribbons can be used to tie a raft, make a hanging children's swing, and it is also an excellent material for weaving garden furniture, flower beds, etc.
Such a non-rotting, almost eternal rope can be used in hundreds of applications.
