Assembling a mini compressor with a receiver from a fire extinguisher

For use on the road or in a small workshop, you can make a lightweight, compact mini compressor. It will be able to work with any equipment like large compressors, although it will have less performance, but for many it will be enough. If equipment mobility is a priority, then this homemade product will definitely come in handy.

Basic materials:

  • fire extinguisher 1-2 l;
  • Automobile compressor;
  • power supply 12V 200 W;
  • high pressure hose;
  • control and distribution block for the compressor;
  • safety valve;
  • adjustable pressure switch;
  • plywood;
  • large clamps – 2 pcs.

Mini compressor manufacturing process

The fire extinguisher must be discharged, disassembled and cleaned.

Then a thread is cut into its cover for the distributor. The small hole in it needs to be plugged with a screw.

The distributor is equipped with a pressure switch, a safety valve and a quick connector for the hose. The last outlet is equipped with a fitting for connecting the compressor. Everything is screwed onto a thread locker or fumlent.

The compressor is connected to the fitting on the distributor. Its hose is secured with a clamp.Next, the compressor is supplied with power from the rectifier. To prevent it from constantly pumping to the limit, you need to connect it through a pressure switch. It is desirable that it be adjustable. This way you can set the pressure to automatically shut off before the compressor starts pumping to its limit.

An open box with a handle is assembled from plywood. It can be equipped with horns for winding the hose and wires. The box contains a fire extinguisher receiver, a compressor and a power supply. The cylinder can be attached to clamps.

When using an adjustable relay, you can configure the compressor so that it turns off when it reaches 6-7 atm. It is not worth installing any more, since for a car pump this is already at the limit of its capabilities. The valve present in the system will act as insurance for emergency automatic air release in the event of pumping, for example, if the relay breaks. Also, by pulling its ring, it will be possible to relieve pressure before sending the compressor for storage.
