If the windshield wipers do not clean the windshield of dirt well, then the first thing that comes to mind is to replace the blades. However, even with new brushes the problem does not disappear. This means that the solution must be sought in something else, in particular, in the windshield wiper arms. But to replace them you will have to shell out several thousand rubles.
How to ensure that the wiper blade adheres to the windshield with your own hands
Fortunately, you can do without buying new leads, but simply eliminate the main cause of poor glass cleaning, which is associated with weak pressure of the brush to the glass due to stretching of the driver spring.
To put the spring in order or replace it, you need to remove the driver to the axle. First of all, remove the protective cap and unscrew the nut holding the leash on the axle using a suitable wrench.
Usually this connection is made with interference, and over the years of operation it becomes clogged with various contaminants. Therefore, removing the driver from the axle is not so easy. To do this, it is better to use a special puller, which costs no more than two hundred rubles.
We clean the removed leash from dirt with various detergents and rinse with water.The tensile spring of the leash is quite rigid and it is often impossible to remove it using improvised means and this is quite dangerous, since a spring that breaks from its fastenings can damage your hands, face, especially your eyes.
The safest way to remove the spring from the leash is to use a wire in the form of a loop, hooking it onto the bracket connecting the spring to the latch on the axle side. Then pull the wire firmly to the side, while fixing the knot, for example with your foot, and placing a piece of fabric or old clothing on top.
For replacement, you can use brake springs of approximately the same length and diameter as the original. An excessively short one (1 cm or more) will not work, since it will not be possible to stretch it and put it in place.
Installing a new suitable spring will also not be easy. In this case, it is better to pull the spring not by the bracket, but by the eye on the brush side, also using a wire loop, taking the same precautions as when removing the old spring. All that remains is to put the driver on the drive axle, tighten the nut and return the protective cap to its place.
In this case, the end of the leash should be adjacent to the windshield with its entire surface and be parallel to it. Otherwise, when moving along the surface of the glass, the brush will not be fully pressed and will begin to vibrate. The second defect is corrected by turning the leash at the base in one direction or another using pliers.
We repaired the wiper for 40 rubles (the price of the purchased spring), while replacing the leash would have cost us 2,000 rubles.
