A muffler, which is designed to reduce the noise of a running internal combustion engine, can be bought in a store for several thousand rubles. But why waste money when you can do it yourself, spending only a couple of hundred rubles.

Making a muffler with your own hands for motorcycles

From a pipe with a larger diameter, we cut off the blank of the outer muffler housing to the estimated length. We weld its ends with disks cut from a steel plate. To do this, place the pipe blank in the center of the plates and paint the joint with spray paint. We remove the pipe blank and get the contours of the plugs, which we cut out with a grinder.

We install a pipe with a smaller diameter on the round plugs in the center, also paint the joints and drill holes commensurate with the smaller pipe.

On a pipe of a smaller diameter inserted into a pipe of a larger diameter, we make a mark corresponding to the height of the larger pipe, and on the surface of the smaller pipe we make uniform perforations up to the height mark.

We weld a nut of suitable size into the inner hole of one of the plugs, and on the other side - a small piece of pipe commensurate with the diameter of this hole.

We weld the resulting assembly to one of the ends of the larger pipe so that the section of the short pipe is on the outside.

We insert the perforated pipe into the large one, put the ring disk all the way into the large pipe, paint the joint and weld the disk to the perforated pipe along the mark.

We wrap glass wool onto the perforated pipe with a thickness sufficient to tightly fill the annular gap between the two pipes.

We cut out a fragment from the metal mesh that corresponds in length and width to the glass wool winding, wrap the glass wool with mesh and fasten it in three places with soft wire.

We insert the resulting assembly into a large pipe, remove the wire, press the ring to the end of the pipe with a clamp and weld it.

We cut off the short pipe extension at an oblique angle and remove the burrs with a file. We paint the muffler with heat-resistant paint. Using pipes, a flange, swivel angles, a clamp, a bolt, nuts and a steel strip, we connect and secure the muffler to the engine.

Our homemade product emits exhaust gases into the atmosphere no worse than its factory counterpart and muffles the sounds of a running engine.
