When the brake disc overheats, it warps a little and the car begins to jerk when braking. Typically, the brake disc in such cases is turned on a lathe. But it is possible to do without turning on a machine, and at the same time save a lot of money and time.

How to quickly sharpen a brake disc with your own hands

We cut out the contours of the friction linings of the brake pads with metal scissors from 32-grit sandpaper and securely glue them to the linings using superglue with the grainy surface facing out.

We install the brake pads with sandpaper glued into place, tighten the nuts on the wheel bolts to securely fix the brake disc.

We start the engine and engage third gear. You can hear the disc rubbing against the sandpaper in some places and periodically making characteristic sounds.

Next, we do not press the brake pedal too hard from time to time in order to activate the process of turning the disc, after first shifting gear from third to fourth. In this case, the car must be on the hand brake, and chocks must be installed under one front and two rear wheels.

Gradually, the sound of friction of the pads with sandpaper on the brake disc becomes continuous, which signals the leveling of the surface of the brake disc as a result of its grinding with sandpaper. Move the speed lever to the neutral position and carefully inspect the brake disc.

If small marks and burrs are found on the disk, the grooving process can be repeated, replacing the coarse 32-grit sandpaper with fine 80-grit or even 120-grit sandpaper. After finishing the grooving process, remove the pasted sandpaper and install the brake pads in place.

Sea trials showed good results. It is during the movement that you can accurately determine the end of the brake disc groove or its repetition.
