A gas boiler is undoubtedly a necessary and useful thing, but, alas, it is not eternal. Unfortunately, many modern household appliances are made in such a way that their repair costs the consumer more than purchasing a new device, and a gas boiler is one of these devices. If one of your boiler rooms fails at your dacha or in your home boiler room, do not rush to throw it away or scrap it after replacing it with a new one. His system contains many useful and necessary mechanisms in everyday life; various motors, pumps, valves, vents and similar parts. Among all this there is a combustion chamber and a pipe for removing combustion products. This is exactly what we need to make a mini-stove. Such a stove can be very useful in a tent during overnight trips into nature, such as fishing, hunting or just relaxing on the shore of a lake or river, so as not to burn expensive gasoline in the car for heating. This stove can also be useful at the dacha, for heating the greenhouse during frosty periods (with appropriate modernization of the greenhouse, of course!).

Will be needed

You will need the following tools and materials:
  • Screwdriver (corresponding to the screws used in the device).
  • Grinding machine with cutting wheel.
  • Ruler.
  • Marker.
  • Small hinged hinge (for the door).
  • Screws.
  • Drill.
  • File.

Making a mini-oven from a gas boiler

To get to the combustion chamber, we had to disassemble almost the entire boiler into its components and remove all the contents. However, all I needed for this was a Phillips screwdriver! But if you work with a screwdriver, it will take very little time. The combustion chamber of a wall-mounted boiler is very small relative to the boiler itself. For example, my size is only 35 x 25 x 25.

In addition (which is especially convenient) such cameras already have a pipe outlet.

The combustion chamber itself is also disassembled. It is fastened with screws and consists of removable walls, water heating elements, fireproof protection made of asbestos shields and gas nozzles.

We disassemble the combustion chamber, remove all the internal contents that we do not need, and put the walls and fireproof shields back together.

Now we need to cut a door to supply fuel (logs, chips or coal) to the stove. To do this, on the front wall, using a ruler and marker, mark the required area.

To determine exactly the front wall, I took into account its most convenient location for myself, its lateral location from the pipe outlet, as well as the presence of a peephole made of heat-resistant glass for observing the combustion of fuel. Now we take a sander (don’t forget about safety glasses!) and carefully cut out the door according to the markings.

Conscientious manufacturers, as a rule, make such combustion chambers from special, refractory metals, such as titanium, so when cutting, you will have to be patient and, just in case, prepare a spare cutting wheel. After the door is cut out, let the whole thing cool on its own. Do not pour water under any circumstances! It is important! Sudden cooling can disrupt the structure of the alloy that makes up the chamber, which will lead to its deformation during further operation! The alloy for such products is designed for independent, natural cooling. After the metal has cooled, we use a file to remove burrs from the edges of the door and the hole for it in the chamber wall. Next, on the door and wall we use a marker to mark the hinge. We drill holes.

We also drill holes on the door to attach the locking valve. We also need holes at the bottom, under the door. They will serve to supply air to the oven (a kind of blower). If necessary, install legs; we also drill holes of the required diameter in the bottom of the chamber in the corners.
We will also need a rectangular piece of metal to make a strip that will cover the gap between the door and the wall from the inside, so that the door does not go into the oven when it is closed. To do this, we cut off a piece of metal with the required parameters, in which we also drill holes for fastening to the wall from the inside.
After the drill work is completed, we assemble everything into a single whole using small bolts and nuts, a screwdriver and a wrench of the corresponding number.

Now let's move on to the pipe. Such pipes for removing combustion products from gas boilers are usually double. This is the so-called “turbo pipe”. That is, there is another one inside the pipe - exhaust comes out through the inner pipe, and cold air enters the boiler through the outer pipe to cool the system. In this case, this will be very useful to us for additional thermal insulation. To do this, simply fill the space between the pipes with some heat-resistant filler. Now you don’t have to worry that the heat from the pipe will melt the ceiling of your tent or greenhouse.
As I already mentioned, there is already an outlet for the pipe in the combustion chamber, so we just have to secure it accordingly.

It is easy to install and just as easy to remove, which is very convenient for transportation. If desired, you can install a rain guard at the top of the pipe to prevent rain from pouring into the oven when it is not in use. This stove can easily fit into the trunk of any car; it is not heavy and compact. It will warm you up in bad weather and add comfort to your tent.

Nonsense! From start to finish!! The combustion chamber from the bottom will burn out quickly, as a disposable device can be used. For ideas 5. For product efficiency 2.
