Many people have unnecessary old chainsaw chains lying around, from which they can make a kind of milling cutter attachment for an angle grinder for processing wood, which is needed on the farm.
How to make an attachment from a chain for an angle grinder?
To do this, we measure the required length of the chain around the landing hub of the angle grinder.
Using a file, we grind out the rivets and drill them out using a drill or a screwdriver with a metal drill.
We release the links from each other. We do the same with the other rivet to get a short piece of chain of the required length. Now you need to connect the two ends of the resulting piece of chain to get a small ring. To do this, you can make a kind of rivet from the rod of a yellow self-tapping screw, since it is made of a fairly durable metal.
We fix it in a screwdriver and grind it along the diameter of the hole in the links.
We bite off with nippers.
We insert a rod of the required length into the holes of the chain links and rivet it with a hammer on a piece of iron, if there is no vice or anvil.
We insert the resulting chain ring into the hub of the grinder, in the same way as a cutting disc is inserted.
In this case, it is necessary to install the ring so that the chain teeth are directed in the direction of rotation.
With the help of such an improvised cutter, you can cut grooves in wood, make recesses, chamfer the edges of a block, and carry out rough grinding.
For example, I tried making a wooden spoon and it turned out pretty well. For the job, I needed a homemade milling cutter, a wooden block, a pencil, a circular saw, straight arms and a little desire.
On a circular saw, I simply cut off the excess, and with the help of my cutter I made a recess for the future spoon and sanded everything unnecessary to give it the well-known shape.
It turned out, of course, a little rough, but that’s not the point. I just showed that using such a cutter you can quickly process wood. This cutter will be especially useful for those who like to tinker, build a house, or simply need all kinds of tools in their line of work.
At the same time, it is necessary to observe safety precautions not only when manufacturing this cutter, since for this you need to use several tools, but also when using the cutter itself in work.
