Even a superficial examination revealed that the old sealant at the junction of the plastic window and the window sill had dried out, cracked and even crumbled, and cold air from the street began to flow through the resulting gap, which clearly manifests itself by deflecting New Year's tinsel if it is brought to the gap.
Large-scale repair work will have to wait until warmer days. After all, they are associated with the dismantling of the external tide and the insulation of the stand profile, which cannot be carried out without opening the window sashes for a long time, which is undesirable, and if there are small children in the house, then it is unacceptable in frosty winter weather.
A quick way to eliminate blowing from the joint of a plastic window
Let's use a quick, simple and less labor-intensive method involving the use of self-adhesive curb tape, which is available in different widths. It is used primarily for sealing joints between bathtubs and toilets and walls. For our case, the most suitable would be flexible border tape 22 mm wide. It glues easily and quite firmly, harmonizes with the design of the window, as it retains its original snow-white color for a long time.
At first, the idea arose to simply renew the old sealant, but had to be abandoned after examining the previous one, which had dried out and turned into crumbs and dust. After all, after some time the same thing will happen with the new sealing compound.
To ensure that the tape sticks as firmly and reliably as possible, degrease the surface with a suitable product. Next, we cut the tape longitudinally by half the width in the place where it hits the corner and cut it for folding in the vertical corners.
For better adhesion of the self-adhesive border tape to the plastic surface of the window and window sill, warm it up with a household hairdryer and press it with your fingers to the joint between the window sill and the window frame.
