In pet stores, the choice of any “bells and whistles” for pets is, of course, wide. But purchasing a ready-made house is not always affordable, and it is not known whether your pet will like the purchase. You can try to build a home yourself, from what you have at home. It will turn out cheaper, and it will have a familiar, homely smell.
So, we conduct an audit of materials in our personal storerooms, select what may be useful to us, and purchase everything that is missing.
I found a suitable multicooker box, leftover foam rubber, an old sisal bag and pieces of fabric: gray knitwear and red faux leather.
The tools we will need are: a knife (can be a stationery knife), a glue gun (it doesn’t smell), a stapler and scissors.
First, draw with a pencil and cut out the entrance to the house with a knife. For example, this one.
My cat loves natural materials, so I decided to cover the inside of the box with burlap using a glue gun. Of course, I first washed and dried the bag, and then cut it into pieces of the required size. Don't forget to cut an entrance hole in the burlap.
We build a ceiling from the lid of the box, carefully attaching it to the walls with a glue gun on all sides around the perimeter.
The “bedroom” is almost ready, and the three remaining elements of the box can now be used to create a second floor. Let's set up a bed here for our cat. For greater strength, we bend the protruding cardboards in half, fastening them with a stapler and glue. Then we form the walls by gluing three bent cardboards together. The frame of the house is ready, you can start finishing work.
According to the size of the walls of the resulting frame, we cut out strips of knitwear, taking into account allowances on all sides of about 1-1.5 cm, and we cover the walls of the house with them from the outside, gluing the fabric gradually, as we work, with a glue gun. We bend the upper allowances onto the inside of the walls of the future bed. Don't forget about the entrance hole! We cut it out with an allowance of 2 cm and glue the edges to the inside of the “bedroom”.
We make three pillows from foam rubber and artificial leather; this will be the soft covering of the walls of our bed. We cut out faux leather rectangles in proportion to the pieces of foam rubber, leaving allowances of 3-4 cm.
We lay pieces of foam rubber on the wrong side of the leather rectangles, folding the allowances. We cut off all excess at the corners and carefully wrap each corner. Use a needle to sew the folds that form in the corners of the pillows, and sew the allowances to the foam rubber.The pillows are ready.
We glue the resulting three pillows onto the walls of the second floor, pressing them well.
All that remains is to put soft bedding inside the house and on the bed, decorating it according to your taste and the cat’s preferences. Housewarming!
