Hole saw from a tin can

How I needed to make a hole in plastic with a large diameter. Buying a ring attachment for a drill turned out to be terribly unprofitable for just one hole. Moreover, I know that I will definitely not need it later. And I came up with the idea to make a drill out of a bean can.
I will show you a way to make such a large diameter drill, with which you can make holes in plastic, plywood, drywall and other soft and thin materials.
Fortunately, you can now buy jars of various diameters in the store - from beans, olives, peaches, etc. So choosing the diameter that is boring for you should not be difficult. This is better and cheaper than throwing out 10 bucks for a hole saw.

Opening the jar

We look in the store for the diameter you are interested in. Then we open the jar. We take out the product and rinse the jar with water so that it is clean.

Drilling a hole

Drill a hole in the bottom of the jar exactly in the center. First we go through the smallest diameter, and then the largest. These steps will add precision, so don't just drill with a large drill bit.

Cutting the teeth

To cut the teeth, I used an engraving machine with an attachment, but this can also be done with a hand tool, say, a hacksaw.

Sharpening the bolt and installing the center pin

Let's take a long bolt with nuts, 5-6 centimeters longer than the can. Let's cut off the head and sharpen one side to a point.

Then we fix the bolt in the bottom of the can. Tighten the nuts on both sides.

Our drill is ready! You made your hole saw without much effort and, most importantly, cost!
Now you can cut plastic, acrylic and drywall.
Before drilling holes in anything, use a regular drill bit to drill a hole in the center so that the bolt of our fixture can be inserted.
This tool is ideal if you need to cut multiple holes in the materials mentioned above and avoid spending extra money.

Two large washers and two extra nuts to lock after a good tightening and no glue needed. It is easier to make the edge of the jar with small notches.

And then return it to the store. I did this with such tools that are needed once every five years.

It's a lot of fuss. Melt the hole with a hot nail or soldering iron and clean it with a knife.
