Is your apartment's balcony glazed, facing south and suffering from the hot sun in summer? Is it inadvisable to install blinds or glue protective film? There are several practical and simple ways to resolve the issue.

A good barrier that dissipates excess UV is created by traditional tulle. Plus, cute curtains add charm and coziness to the room. The presence or fastening of a cornice is not necessary. We'll tell you how to fix the protective material on the glass itself. All you need is unnecessary tulle, a handful of starch and a little time.

Step-by-step instructions on how to close balcony windows

  1. Wash the glass. Measure the internal size of the balcony frames.
  2. From unnecessary tulle, cut out rectangles corresponding to the size of the glass. No allowances needed!
  3. Prepare a starch paste at the rate of 1 large spoon of starch per 0.75 liter of water. To do this, gradually pour the starch into boiling water, stirring continuously. The specified quantity should be enough for 4 average sliding frames, although much depends on the nature of the canvas.
  4. Dip the tulle pieces into the adhesive liquid until completely saturated.
  5. Distribute the damp, slightly wrung out material over the glass, starting from the center of the top. Press with your palms, paying special attention to the edges.
  6. Brew delicious tea and invite your friends to judge the results!

Why this particular way to close the windows?

The method is simple, practical, cheap and very effective. On such a balcony you can successfully grow flowers without fear of leaf burns. You can do your favorite things for a long time and relaxingly, without fear of witnesses in the person of passers-by and residents of neighboring houses.

The aesthetics of the room depends 80% on the pattern of the selected canvas. For adherents of minimalism and modern European interiors, we advise you to find a material without a pattern. Fans of Provence, country, and shabby chic styles will like curtains like a loin net, as well as with stitching and borders. Experimenters can “play” with partial masking from above or below.

Adherents of this method cover not only balconies, but also kitchen windows and even living rooms. On the street side, the windows are washed as usual. Dust is removed from the inside with a damp cloth.

You can remove such protection at any time. Starch residues are easily removed with water during regular window washing. Moreover, starch gives the glass an extra shine!

We wish you successful experiments.

I think that the edges will constantly peel off and will have to be coated with glue. I’ll have to try it just for fun.

    question
    where do you dissipate heat?
    at your place?
I agree with the decision in principle and not even on the balcony
but on the other side of the window
I have blinds nailed 10cm from the wall on the street side
so that there is ventilation in the summer too
there are no other normal solutions
    not even that expensive
in comparison with the price of the window itself and the eternal gravity of Yaril

I made beautiful blinds, I really like them, but one thing is that they don’t stick to the cotta🤔 I put a sealant at the top in several layers, made 3 eyelets and screwed in tiny screws with a clamp /on a Euro window/ and it turned out great!
