Good, high-quality, original headphones, from a popular and well-known brand, providing clear and loud sound, are not cheap in the relevant stores. Not every person can just go and buy these immediately after breaking the same ones, their old ones. Some will wait until they get a bonus or salary, others will save if money is really bad... You can, of course, buy a cheap replica, but it won’t give the same sound as the original. Such headphones have nothing in common with real ones, except for their appearance, and even then, not for long - after a short time they will most likely lose that too.

And in order not to waste money by buying a fake, you can repair the old ones quite easily and quickly. The sound, of course, will also not be exactly the same as before, but here we at least win in that we don’t have to spend money on a replica, and we can save the money we save, which will be useful when buying original headphones. I think anyone who has ever seen such a simple device as an electric soldering iron can handle soldering two pairs of wires. There is nothing complicated here. First of all, it is necessary to identify the problem area. That is, the breakdown of old headphones. In inexpensive, average quality headphones, the plug most often fails. More precisely, the place where the plug connects to the cable. Wiring there often breaks inside the braid due to frequent kinks and vibrations. Well, high-quality, good headphones are usually made to last and are not subject to such defects - they work until the last minute, and almost always fail due to wear and tear on the speakers.

Or rather, the membranes of the speakers. Nothing can be done about this - everything has its own working life. The speakers, due to aging and wear of this very membrane, begin to produce distorted sound, wheeze and crackle. Today we will talk about changing worn-out speakers.

Will need

  • Soldering iron, tin and flux.
  • Scissors.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Small pliers.
  • You may need some second glue (although I got by).
  • Broken headphones with intact speakers.

Headphone repair

Surely, every music lover and music connoisseur has a box like this with old and broken headphones.

When repairing your favorite headphones, you can go in two ways. First: replace the damaged speakers themselves, inside the headphone housings. And second; If you cannot find the appropriate size and shape of the speakers, change the headphone shells themselves along with the speakers. In the second option, you will have to sacrifice appearance, for whom this is important. No, they will not look ugly or sloppy, they will simply lose the appearance of the original. I didn’t find any suitable, and most importantly, two IDENTICAL (this is important!), in my case four, speakers in my supplies, so let’s go the second way. Although, replacement technologies are not much different. In essence, this turns out to be more of a replacement of damaged parts with working ones, rather than a repair. But I think this can still be attributed to repair, because in the end we will end up with a working headset assembled from two damaged ones. So, first you need to pick up old or broken headphones that have intact speakers.

Next, you need to disassemble the headphones themselves to remove them from the cable. Take it apart carefully! In some headphones, on the speaker, on top of the membrane, there may be a brass ring that is attached to the plastic grille with double tape. If, when disassembling such a structure, you sharply pull the disassembled parts, you can easily separate the membrane from the speaker. That is; the membrane will remain on the grille, and the rest of the speaker will remain in the earphone, and this cannot be repaired. I've already encountered this. Therefore, you should remove the round plastic grill very carefully.

After you have separated the grilles with the speakers from the rest of the case, you need to unsolder the two wires from the speaker contacts. Set the sealed speakers aside. Now we remove the headphone housings from the cables. You can cut the cable with scissors, but I untied the knot that was tied on the cable inside the earphone. This node acts as a limiter so that no one accidentally rips the cable out of the earphone. So, the headphones are separated from the old cable. Now let's disassemble the headphones that we are going to use in the future. The procedures are the same as described above.

Only in these headphones, for some reason, instead of a restrictive unit, there were metal brackets.

They are also designed to secure the cable inside the case. We remove these brackets from the cable and pull the cable out of the housing. We repeat the procedure with the second ear.

Next, we assemble the headphones in the reverse order, only with other, undamaged parts. We thread the cable into the housing.

We snap the grille with the speaker onto the headphone body.

We repeat everything with the second earphone. Well, the headphones are ready.

You can use it. And by the way, the sound has changed quite a bit; there is less bass. But this is understandable, the previous headphones had two small speakers each, but here there is one large one. But this only affected the bass, nothing more. But to replace the lost bass, the headphones turned up the volume. About one and a half times! This was apparently due to the large speakers. Generally; The headphones turned out quite good. They don't crackle or hiss. The sound is clear. The result is demonstrated in the video at the end of the article. So, from two pairs of damaged headphones, we easily assembled some normal ones.
