The process of transforming a drum into a grill
We begin the work by inspecting it and drilling holes in the crosspiece and in the drum using a drill and a step drill.
Use a powerful pry bar screwdriver to tear off the crosspiece from the base. Using the same screwdriver, we clean the deposits formed under the crosspiece.
Pour vinegar essence diluted with water into the bottom bowl and distribute it over all surfaces with a paint brush.
Once again we drill out the holes that previously served to attach the cross to the drum.
We fix it in a vice, mark it and cut the old pipe section into equal parts with a grinder to make 6 long and 3 short sections. We make the cuts obliquely at the same angle.
We clean the pipe blanks from rust with a grinder and a grinding wheel. We weld 3 supports for the grill from pipes.Long workpieces are stops and stops, connected to each other by welding using short pipes. A rigid Z-shape is obtained due to oblique cuts.
We fix the welded pipe supports in a vice and grind the seams with a grinder and a grinding wheel.
We make holes in the limiter pipes at the top using a drill with a step drill.
We paint the supporting parts of the grill with black spray paint from a can.
We insert the limiters into the lower holes of the drum until its bottom “sits” on the transverse pipes. In this case, the limiters will pass along the grooves along the side surface and come out of the upper holes.
We put wide metal washers on the protruding parts of the restrictive pipes and weld them to the pipes and drum.
We screw the nuts of the ring-head bolts closer to the end. We insert the bolts into the holes of the limiters and weld the nuts to them.
We cover the welding areas with spray paint through the slot in the cardboard protection.
We cut out two rods from the old structure, remove the paint from them and put them aside for now.
Using a drill and a grinding wheel, we tidy up the old round grill.
We insert a rod into one limiter pipe until it stops, and place a round grate on the drum shell so that its boss with two holes is centered exactly opposite the rod.
We try on a section of the corner to the boss and the rod, mark with a marker the place of the cutout in the lower flange and the oblique cuts from the center.
We fix the corner in a vice and process it according to the markings using a grinder. We drill two holes in the whole corner shelf opposite the holes in the boss of the round lattice.
We secure the corner to the grate boss with bolt sets.
We turn the grill over, place the rod in the cutout of the corner and weld them.For rigidity, we weld a gusset between the rod and the opposite flange of the corner.
By unscrewing the ring-head bolt, we make sure that the grille with the rod rises, falls and tilts to the side, and can also be fixed in any position.
We weld two identical plates with rounded corners in the center of the long side perpendicular to their planes along the rod to two identical plates cut from a stainless steel sheet.
We install the rods with the plates in the two remaining stops on the drum. They, like the lattice cover, can be fixed in height and plan in any position using bolts with round heads.
In principle, all the operations that turned the washer drum into a grill have been completed.
Tests
Place the grill on the ground. Move the grate aside and add firewood. We light them and let them burn.
Lubricate the stainless steel plates with sunflower oil and place a slice of loaf with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. on one of them.
The fire in the grill has gained strength and you can already warm up and even lightly fry a piece of lard strung on a wooden skewer.
We soak the loaf of vegetables with drops of hot fat falling from the shmat. After repeating the process several times, we try the resulting delicacy and make sure that it is excellent.
When the wood is mostly burned out, place the grate over the coals and cook the meat steaks. The feeling of the resulting dish cannot be expressed in words.
