Mannequin manufacturing process
A spring from a car suspension welded to a wheel rim is used as the dummy’s leg.
A small piece of profile pipe is welded into it from above. Since it is thinner, welding is performed using reinforcement inserts. When welding, it is important to heat the metal well and apply a thick seam, since these units will be subject to a strong dynamic load.
The mannequin stand is made of 50x50 mm timber.One of its edges needs to be planed into a wedge so that it can fit into the profile pipe on a spring. It is advisable to press it in as far as possible. To prevent the block from falling out, you need to drill a hole in the pipe and drive a self-tapping screw through it.
An old mattress or cotton blanket is wrapped around a fixed stand.
It is more convenient to do this by placing the projectile on its side. The padding used must be dry. When winding, the initial edge is screwed to the block with short self-tapping screws. This is necessary so that a blanket or mattress broken by blows cannot slide down to the spring. Next, everything is tightly wrapped with stretch film. Before this, for convenience, you can secure the roll with tape rings. When winding the film, you should tighten it as tightly as possible. You need to wrap it in such a way as to protect the filler from getting wet on top as much as possible. This will allow the mannequin to be left in the rain.
When using a dummy at the initial stage, you should practice punches with caution, since, thanks to the springs, it is more mobile than a pear, so it can push hard on the return stroke. This allows you to train not only your strike, but also your reaction speed.
The stretch film used for winding does not tear from impacts and lasts a long time if it is wound in a sufficient number of layers. Occasionally it will need to be renewed. When carrying, the mannequin should be tilted and, unscrewing it from the stand, rolled to the desired location.
