The process of making a mechanical beetle collector
To mechanize the assembly of the Colorado potato beetle, you need to make a receiver with a screen where the pest will fall, and a “sweeper” that knocks it off the bushes.
A cordless screwdriver is used as a “sweeper”. Its chuck holds a rod with a small sheet of tin or other fairly rigid and light sheet material attached. The receiver is a screen made of tin with a small groove at the bottom. The “sweeper”, when rotating, knocks the beetles off the bushes, and they, by inertia, hitting the screen, fall into the gutter.
