To make heat-shrinkable PET tape, you need a bottle cutter. Such a tool can be made on the basis of a steel angle, and it will allow you to obtain tapes of different widths.
Materials:
- corner 20x20 mm;
- mounting knife blade;
- M4 screw;
- M4 washer;
- M4 nut;
- M4 stud.
Bottle cutter manufacturing process
Cut a piece of 150 mm from the corner.
Then, at marks 80, 90 and 100 mm, you need to make cuts on the edge of the angle with a depth of 15, 10 and 5 mm. The cut is made with a hacksaw for metal.
Next, you need to apply the blade of a mounting knife from the inside of the corner and fix it.
To do this, you need to drill 2 holes in the corner and cut an M4 thread into them.
One of them should be located opposite the standard hole in the blade, and the second is slightly further from the tip. This will allow you to clamp the blade on the corner with the cutting edge to the slots, through its hole using a screw and washer.
A threaded rod 250 mm long is screwed into the second hole in the corner on the side of the blade tip. It is fixed in one position with a nut.
To obtain a ribbon from a plastic bottle, the bottom is cut off.
Next, the bottle cutter is clamped vertically in a vice, slightly below the pin. A plastic bottle is placed on a pin and the bottom edge cuts into one of the slots on the edge of the corner.
By turning it in a circle, you need to ensure that the cut tape comes out on the other side of the cut. After this, by pulling it, you can dissolve the entire bottle.
Depending on which slot the bottle is tucked into, you can get a tape 5, 10 or 15 mm wide.
Where to use this tape?
This bottle tape is incredibly durable and has heat-shrink properties. It is worth wrapping it around, say, two pieces of wood and tying it in a knot.
Next, heat with a hairdryer or lighter.
