On a hike or just in an emergency when there is no electricity or gas, it is convenient to use a homemade alcohol burner from a tin can. You can quickly boil water for tea and even cook food on it. It is several times more compact than the most portable tourist gas stove, while easily supporting the weight of the pan.

Burner manufacturing process
Any small tin can with a metal lid will fit the burner body.
A wick in the form of a ring is made under it. It is needed to increase the area of alcohol evaporation, which will ensure powerful, uniform combustion. It can be sewn from a piece of fire hose, tarpaulin or other natural material. The wick should be placed close to the inner walls of the jar.
In the jar itself you need to pierce holes with an awl 2 mm thick. They are punched around the circumference in increments of 8 mm at a distance of 15 mm from the top edge. Each of them needs to be turned up slightly to direct the flame.
Before use, a little alcohol is poured into the burner, literally 50 ml. You can fill with denatured alcohol, but on the street gasoline or acetone will do.The fuel is then ignited. You need to wait 10-20 seconds until the jar warms up and quickly close it with a lid.
The flame inside will use up all the air and go out immediately. Then all that remains is to set fire to the alcohol vapor escaping through the side holes from the outside. After this, you can put a kettle, pan or other utensils on the burner.
If the burner is used indoors, then it is better to refuel in small quantities so that it burns out completely every time. If you blow it out, a characteristic persistent smell of alcohol will appear in the air; this is undesirable, especially if denatured alcohol was used.
