Mini lathe from a broken grinder and drill

When assembling various crafts, it is often necessary to make various small parts from wood on a lathe. Turning to a turner every time is not an option, so for small things you can make your own simple machine. It will be just a godsend if special precision is not required during work.

Materials:

  • broken grinder;
  • wide board;
  • rail;
  • M14 pin;
  • nut M14;
  • washer M14;
  • self-tapping screws

Manufacturing process of a mini lathe

It is necessary to dismantle the grinder gearbox and clamp its shaft into the drill.

Then, ensuring its rotation due to it, you need to grind the spindle to a cone using sandpaper.

After this, the gearbox is screwed to the board, which will serve as the sole of the machine.

Next, you need to grind off a section of M14 pin under the cone. Then the halves of the nut cut in half are screwed onto it, and the washer is clamped between them.

The washer is marked into 6 sectors and cut to the nuts. Then each of them is turned out to form something like an impeller. After this, the part is clamped in the drill chuck.

A two-part clamp for attaching the drill is cut out of a board or batten.

It needs to be drilled and slots made in the sole for the holes made. This will allow you to clamp the drill with a clamp and move it along the sole, changing the distance to the gearbox axis.

The legs are nailed to the bottom of the machine.

To clamp a part in the machine, you need to spread it between the points and clamp the clamp. The wrapped washer will prevent the workpiece from slipping on the thin axis. After this, guided by the dimensions of the blank and the available cutting tools, a stop made of lath is screwed to the sole.

After starting the drill, the part is processed as on a conventional lathe.
