Not everyone knows that any semiconductor diode is capable of converting solar energy into electrical energy. The main thing is that sunlight falls on the crystal of the device. A simple example of how you can build a simple solar battery using diodes in a transparent glass case.

- Cardboard.
- Solder.
- Wires.
Making a solar battery from diodes with your own hands
A cardboard backing will be used as the base. We glue two strips of foil tape onto the cardboard - they will serve as a reflector.
We glue two strips of adhesive tape on top of each strip - these will serve as a stand for the diodes.
Remove the second protective layer from the pasted tapes.
We take 2 packages of diodes, 40 pieces each. We cut them into 4 groups of 20 pieces each. We glue the diodes by flipping the groups in a checkerboard pattern so that it is more convenient to connect them in series.
First, we solder all the diodes in each group in parallel, and only then we connect all the groups in series “plus” to “minus”.
The solar battery is ready. To check the operation we connect multimeter to the exit.
In bright sunlight, the solar cell produces just over 300 mV.
As soon as you cover the light with your hand, the voltage immediately drops, which indicates that the solar battery is working.
