The file blade becomes clogged with small sawdust. As a result, it stops working and just slides across the surface. To return the tool to its effectiveness, you need to clean out its notches.

File cleaning process
To clean files, you need to make a special tool from a copper tube. This can be a pipe of any thickness, but the larger the diameter, the faster it will clean the notches. The edge of the workpiece must be flattened with a hammer or in a vice.
The resulting scraper can be used to clean the file. Its flat side is applied to the file blade from the side in the direction of the marks. You need to move the tool parallel to the notches until the copper rubs in due to its softness.
The scraper will have serrations to the depth of the file marks, which will clear out all the sawdust.
