Birch bark is a warm, pleasant to the touch material that is resistant to rotting, so a knife handle made from it is comfortable and durable. An important advantage is its appearance. It makes any blade look much better. Making a handle from birch bark is much easier than it seems.

Materials:

  • Dry birch bark;
  • epoxy resin;
  • sheet metal 4-6 mm.

The process of making a handle for a knife from birch bark

You can make a composite handle from birch bark on a blade equipped with a shank with a thread at the end. Additionally, you also need to make a bolster blank from sheet metal, which will be located between the blade and the handle, as well as a back plate with a threaded hole.

Dried birch bark must be cut into small rectangles, which, when folded in layers, will form a handle.

Holes are punched into their center for the shank of the blade.

Next, epoxy glue is mixed.

A bolster blank is placed on the blade.

Then you need to lubricate it with glue and place a birch bark plate on top.

The latter is also coated with epoxy and covered with the next rectangle of bark. Thus, a layer of the required height is built up.

After the last birch bark plate, the backplate is screwed on.

You need to compress the layers with it and wait until the glue sets. After hardening, the handle is ground.

It is necessary to give it a shape that is comfortable for the hand.

It is better to do the final finishing by hand with sandpaper so as not to remove excess. The finished handle is soaked in oil, and the knife can be used for its intended purpose.
