Manufacturing process of self-closing door latch with handle
We cut a piece of reinforcement 21 cm long. We measure 6 cm on both sides and bend the ends 90 degrees in one direction.
We get a U-shaped door handle blank.
We separate a 15.5 cm segment from the old metal strip 6 cm wide.
We draw a line longitudinally in the center. At one end of the strip, on the center line outside, we draw a square 1.5 × 1.5 cm.
We cut out the resulting figure and measure 1.5 cm from the ends on the longitudinal line, and drill holes with a diameter of 1 cm. At the ends of the handle blank, remove the longitudinal protrusions with a file.
We insert the handle into the holes of the plate and weld it on the back side.
We drill holes with a diameter of 0.5 cm in the corners of the plate.
On one shelf of the old corner we mark 4 cm in the longitudinal direction, 3.5 cm in the transverse direction. On the second shelf from the corner at a distance of 3 cm we draw a line and remove unnecessary areas according to the markings.
According to the size of the part, we make a mating part from the plate from the corner: we cut off the lower corners and drill a hole at the end. We place a washer on it and press it on top with a square plate, which we weld to the vertical part of the part from the corner.
We place the triangular part with the hole down on a square plate and transfer the center of the hole to the part from below. At the same level with this mark we perform the second. At the first mark we drill a hole with a diameter of 0.6 cm, at the second - 1 cm.
We insert the bolt rod with the nut under the head into the drill chuck and use a grinder to round the head and nut, and shorten the rod.
We weld a piece of reinforcement across the most pointed corner of the triangular part.
We wrap the door handle with film and electrical tape, paint open areas and other parts with spray paint. After the paint has dried, assemble the latch and flatten the end of the bolt.
We fasten the handle plate with screws to the door leaf so that the side protrusion is directed towards the door frame pillar, on which we fasten the latch tongue.
When closing the door leaf, the side protrusion of the handle, sliding along the cut edge of the tongue, lifts and overcomes it. Then the tongue, lowering, stops the protrusion of the handle.
To open the door, you need to lift the tongue and pull the door towards you to disengage the protrusion of the handle.
If, with the latch closed, you pass the padlock shank through its holes and turn the key, the door will not open until the lock is removed.
