There are many ways to build a fire, achieving a long burn, minimal smoke emission or maximum glow. There is also the so-called scout's bonfire. It is very good for cooking in a pot. In addition, such a fire is not at all afraid of windy weather, requires little firewood, and is almost invisible at night from the outside.

What you will need:

  • Sapper shovel;
  • matches or lighter.

The process of making a scout fire

Using a shovel, you need to dig two wells 40 cm deep in the ground. They are made square in cross section. Their width is equal to a sapper blade, that is, 20 cm. The distance between the holes should also be about 20 cm.

Then, at the very bottom of the well, you need to connect it with a small tunnel. You can simply dig it with your hand, or pierce it with a knife.

Now we put firewood in one hole and set it on fire. As a result, warm air moves upward, causing combustion oxygen to be drawn through the empty well. A flame with strong draft is formed, which extends very slightly above the surface. As a result, little smoke is produced when burning.

You can place a pot over a well with a fire and quickly prepare food or tea.

It will also not be a problem to quickly extinguish the fire by pouring the selected soil back into the pits. This fire will be very useful in strong winds, or if there is a lot of dry leaves and grass around, which carries the risk of a forest fire.
