First you need to make calculations and determine how many squares of brick you need to purchase. When making calculations, it is necessary to take into account the size of the seams between the bricks, as well as trimming and scrap during work.
It is necessary to start laying bricks from the foundation. In some cases, it may be necessary to level the foundation to the water level by adding mortar. Once the base for the masonry has become level, you can begin cladding. In the example provided in the illustration, three walls of the house were covered. Therefore, in this case, you need to start laying on the side that is connecting. Starting from the level of the connecting side, the remaining two are laid.
In this case, a regular mortar with one share of cement and three shares of sand is used. Brick laying will be done under jointing. Therefore, it is necessary to use a glazing bead with a width of 7 - 10 mm.The glazing bead is placed on the corner of the bed and a spoon is used to apply the solution at its level. To apply the mortar between the bricks, you can use a small glazing bead and apply the mortar at its level with a spatula.
In addition, it is necessary to monitor the vertical and horizontal level of the brick, and, if necessary, use a rubber mallet to level the brick. To maintain a horizontal level you need to use a fishing line. To do this, you first need to install the outermost bricks and pull the fishing line from them. It is important that the outermost, corner bricks are exactly level on all sides, since the evenness of the entire row will depend on them. Vertical evenness can be checked using a small level.
It is very important to keep the vertical seams parallel so that they are at the same level. It is important to monitor this on each row, and approximately every 5 bricks, check the vertical with the previous row using a building level.
Every 3 – 4 rows it is necessary to connect the masonry to the main wall of the house using anchors or ordinary reinforcement. To do this, holes are drilled with a hammer drill at a distance of 1 - 1.5 m. Reinforcement is driven into these holes, or anchors are screwed in. In addition, it is advisable to lay thin wire along the entire length of at least several rows of masonry. It’s even better to reinforce the corners of the masonry by connecting the walls with wire every 3 to 4 rows.
In some places you will have to trim the brick. For example, to bypass the air conditioner fasteners, for outgoing wires, at the approaches to windows or doors. Trimming is done using a grinder. You can also use a tile cutter to trim small facing bricks.
In order to lay the brickwork above the windows, a corner corresponding to the size of the brick is used.The length of the corner should be 50 cm longer than the length of the window opening in order to protrude 25 cm from each edge. Before laying the corner, you can apply a small layer of liquid mortar to the masonry. Before laying a row of bricks on the corner, it also needs to be coated with a small layer of liquid mortar. The corner is simply placed on the masonry without fastenings.
The next day, when the solution has cooled, it is necessary to use jointing or a small metal bead to smooth out small unevenness in the seams. This can be done right away, but then it is better to use a brush. In addition, using a wet brush, you must immediately remove the mortar from the brick. If you don't do this right away, when the solution is fresh, it will be much more difficult later.
In some cases, window slopes can also be finished with facing bricks, so they do not have to be constantly painted and will not show damp spots.
In order to give a more beautiful look to the facing brick, a special varnish is used. Over time, especially after winter, salt stains appear on the brick; if, after completing the masonry, you treat the brick with varnish, this will not only protect the brick, but also give it a more contrasting color.
