Cactus using modular origami technique

For creating crafts you will need:
  • office color paper A4 format (green, blue, pink, yellow, red);
  • scissors, stationery knife;
  • PVA glue or Moment-gel.

Step-by-step master class

We cut colored paper into small rectangular pieces, the size of each of which is 1/32 of a standard sheet of office paper. From the rectangles we fold paper triangular elements (modules), which will form the basis of the future cactus.

Flower pot

Row 1 – place 18 blue triangular blanks with the shorter side forward.
Row 2-3 – 18 blue elements, arranged with the longer side out.

Cactus

We start collecting cactus with triplets

Cactus using modular origami technique

In total, you need to collect 8 triplets from green paper triangles. We connect the resulting blanks together into a ring
Cactus using modular origami technique

There are 16 triangular elements in one row.
We continue assembling the cactus up to the 10th row inclusive.

Row 11 consists of 8 green paper triangles.
We fasten the last row as tightly as possible, trying to bury the maximum amount of free space.
When the base of the cactus is assembled, it must be carefully inserted into the pot with the narrowed side facing inward of the pot.

Flower

We assemble the middle from red elements.
In total you will need 10 red triangles.
1st row – insert 5 paper triangles with the shorter side forward;
2nd row – insert 5 paper triangles with the longer side on the front side.

We collect the petals of the flower from yellow paper elements.
We begin the assembly by forming an arcuate arch, which consists of nine modules: 4 triangles on the right and 4 on the left, connected by 1 triangular element to each other

Each arch is carefully attached to the core

To ensure reliable fastening, the joint can be glued using any glue for paper and cardboard or transparent super glue.

    I wanted to decorate my desktop with something unusual. I really liked this cactus, so I was happy to make it. The instructions are very easy to follow, thank you!
