Repairing a puncture without removing the wheel

On a long journey, the driver will benefit from a special kit for quick repair of a tubeless wheel, which can be used to eliminate the consequences of a tire puncture with a screw or nail, without removing the wheel itself from the car. In addition, this type of seal repair in a tire shop will cost more (one puncture) than the entire set (enough to repair 5 damages).

Tubeless tire repair kit

Such repair kit can be purchased at most car enthusiast stores or ordered from China.
Moreover, at a very attractive price (compared to our stores) on our favorite Ali Express - link to the product.

What does it include:
  • Synthetic cord impregnated with rubber;
  • Glue activator;
  • Awl-rasp;
  • Needle.

In addition, the driver's tool bag should contain wire cutters or pliers that can be used to remove a screw stuck in the tire. You will also need a sharp knife.

Adjust the wheel to a comfortable position

If the front wheel has a puncture, it is enough to turn it outward and install it so that the puncture site is accessible for work. In the case of the rear tire, everything is a little more complicated - it will have to be removed.The tire that we are going to repair using this method must be inflated, otherwise nothing will work.

Preparatory process

First, you need to remove the foreign body from the tire using the necessary tool.

At the same time, we try to do the job with minimal damage to the wheel. We plug the hole with an awl and expand it using back-and-forth movements with rotation.

Leave the rasp in the tire and prepare the needle. To do this, we thread a rubber band through the eyelet and treat it with activator glue.

Installing the Sealing Cord

With one hand, pull out the awl-rasp and insert a needle with a rubber seal into the hole, pressing it to the desired depth.

This process is labor-intensive and requires sufficient physical strength.

After the cord is recessed and protruding ends 1.5-2 cm long remain on the surface of the protector, the needle should be pulled out with a sharp movement of the hand. Using water, we check the tightness and cut off the remaining harness with a knife, flush with the tread.

If necessary, restore the tire pressure to normal.

Summing up

All the advantages of quick repairs using a rubber cord are obvious:
  • If you get a puncture on several tires at once, and you can’t get by with just one spare tire;
  • Saves time and effort - no need to change or even remove the wheel;
  • The cost will be much cheaper than the services of a tire workshop.

One item from this list is enough to justify the presence of this kit on board.

    The most terrible way to repair. Then there will be a lump in this place. During cleaning, the cord threads break. At a tire shop: wheel removal, repair, balancing, wheel installation cost 250 rubles. This year I caught a self-tapping screw, everything was done quickly.

      You'd think they wouldn't use such methods!

        They install the patch and pre-mill it. Everything sticks together from the inside and holds together better than this “super” method.

      There won't be a bump there. I’ve been driving like this for many years now and doing repairs like this myself. The tires last until they die. I mean, until they wear off.

        If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have spoken. Can you tell me what will happen if the cord is broken?

    About the cord - they pierced my tire with a knife, nicked it twice, and then restored it to a normal tire by cutting out a piece and welding, or whatever else they do I don’t know, a new segment. We are talking about the sidewall, if anything, the main load is there as you understand. So, after this operation I was stupid enough to overclock it to 200, not to check specifically, thank God everything is ok. After that, the tire went another 100 thousand without any problems.
