Although the universal or one-piece door hinge is not particularly intricate in design, it often serves as the basis for the manufacture of original and useful homemade devices and devices.
Today we will try to transform the loop into a multi-purpose scraper for removing hardened glue smudges, thick greasy formations, dried paint stains, etc.

To implement our idea, we do not need special qualifications, scarce materials or special tools.

Will need

In addition to the simplest steel universal loop, we must have the following materials:
  • metal rod;
  • plastic handle;
  • a bolt and a wing nut (two pairs);
  • replaceable blades for a construction knife.

We will make do with the simplest and most common tools:
  • grinder with cutting disc;
  • hammer;
  • marker;
  • bench vice.

The process of turning a loop into a scraper

In our case, we will use the property of the wings of a one-piece loop to fit tightly to each other when they are brought together. In this position, we draw lines with a marker to cut their corners.

We clamp the loop in a vice in the folded position and remove the corners of the wings according to the markings. This will protect us from injuries when working on a homemade product and will further ensure safe operation of the scraper.

We weld or solder a rod to the central hinge of the hinge frame wing, which will serve as the basis for the handle of our homemade product.

We attach a comfortable plastic handle to the rod with light blows of a hammer.

Insert one screw into the outer holes of the hinges folded together and, on the other hand, screw wing nuts onto them.
Slightly loosening the wing nuts, insert a replacement blade for a construction knife into the gap between the wings of the hinge, and tighten the threaded pairs again. Our homemade scraper is completely ready to work for its intended purpose.

Scraper practice

Using our scraper, you can quickly, effortlessly and effectively remove drops and smudges of dried paint, thick oil formations, spilled hardened glue, etc. from any surface (desktop, workbench, floor, finished product, etc.).

Over time, the replacement blade can lose its sharpness and slip over the surface of ingredients we would like to remove. In this case, it is enough to loosen the wing nuts and replace the dull insert with a new one.

    When we recalculate all this we get:
    1. let's go to the store
    2. buy a ready-made Chinese scraper (25-30 rubles)
    3. we save a lot of time, effort and some money)))

      In this regard, I think this way: when you learn other people’s ideas, sometimes your own appear. Here's at least where else this can be applied.

    A ready-made scraper like this costs a hundred rubles, is it worth the bother?

    here it shows what you can do with your own hands without going to the store, let’s say you don’t have a car and you don’t live in the city, but it’s about an hour or more on foot to the store, so there are different situations. + To the author, keep up the good work (:

      Yes! You live on Mars, and you wanted just such a scraper! And a screwdriver just hurts your eyes. It’s just my father-in-law’s screwdriver, from Philips or Suzuki, or another company, well, not Chinese, well, it’s just in the way, but it’s a shame to throw it away, my father-in-law will pick it up (they don’t pick up someone else’s on Mars). And then yesterday my wife bought a canopy, for the occasion, made of stainless steel, with a guarantee for 100 years.Well, isn't it a mockery? Well, isn't it masochism? Yes, I don’t care that there’s a store across the street - doors to doors with the house and I don’t care that my wife asks to install this canopy in the pantry, and I don’t care that in that corner there’s a whole bunch of spatulas of different sizes and they were also purchased yesterday, but you want to take away my soul in order to annoy my wife and mother-in-law. And then the video comes to the rescue... Phew, I did the same as in the video... My soul felt better...

      And in an hour we make a scraper from randomly lying around; hinges, a replaceable blade, a screwdriver, with the help of accidentally turning up welding and other tools.
