Tinting car windows using special films has only one advantage - low cost. After a few years, it completely loses its original properties. The appearance of the car deteriorates, removing the film is not a problem, difficulties appear after attempts to remove traces of glue. White spirit, gasoline, acetone and other known solvents do not help.

What to prepare

Wetting the glass is done with a soap solution using any household spray bottle. To seal windows, you can use paper or newspapers; the glue is removed with an old plastic card.

Glass cleaning technology

Wet the car window with soapy water over the entire area. Do not leave any gaps, do not be afraid that liquid will get on the seals. The mechanisms for tearing/burying and lifting windows will not deteriorate from a small amount of moisture.

While the glass is wet, cover it with pieces of newspaper and again wet them with soapy water. The paper is needed to ensure that the glass remains wet for a long period of time; the soap should corrode the glue for at least 10–20 minutes.

As the newspapers dry, spray them again with a spray bottle. After exposure, remove the newspapers. You can do this with your hands.

Using the edge of the plastic card, carefully scrape off the soft glue. It is not recommended to use a metal spatula. Although it is difficult to scratch the glass surface with it, there is a possibility that microscopic abrasive particles (grains of sand or dust) will get between it and the window. And traces of them will definitely appear.

If there are still areas with hard glue, repeat the soaking process. Never try to remove them with metal tools. There is no need to save time; replacing damaged glass will cost much more.
At the final stage, wipe the window with a special cloth and remove any remaining soap. If necessary, pre-moisten the cloth with clean water or any glass cleaner.

Conclusion

This method has shown its effectiveness not only in removing glue from car window tinting. For the winter, many people insulate single-chamber plastic windows with shrink film; it is glued around the perimeter of the sash with double-sided tape. It is very difficult to remove it using conventional methods, but a soap solution greatly facilitates the cleaning process.
