What is the best way to descale an electric kettle? Of course, most housewives will prefer non-chemical products. Although there is a completely alternative option, which is no worse, even in some cases noticeably better - this is cleaning with citric acid.

It will provide a gentle descaling method that will definitely not damage any kettle. And in most cases, it is much easier to find citric acid in the store than a descaling agent. Perhaps even cheaper!

The advantages of this method:

  • cheap;
  • available;
  • environmentally friendly.

Cleaning the kettle from scale

1. The bottom of an electric kettle, in which water is heated daily, becomes covered with a red coating within a couple of weeks. These are salts that fall out of water when boiled.
2. To descale it, you only need one teaspoon (with the top) of citric acid.

    Yes, citric acid is the best descaling agent, but there is one BUT: Under no circumstances should you boil a kettle with citric acid. With frequent use, the sealing gaskets will simply corrode and the kettle will “leak”. The most correct method:
    1 - Pour 2/3 of the maximum volume of water into the kettle
    2 - Boil water
    3 - Pour 40 grams of citric acid into the kettle. Be careful there will be a violent reaction
    4 - Stir the water in the kettle with a spoon and leave for 5 - 10 minutes
    5 - Drain the water
    6 - Boil a new portion of water and drain
    While the citric acid solution is hot, you can wash it with it:
    1 - The kettle itself
    2 - All items in the kitchen, bathroom, toilet where a white coating from hardness salts has appeared.
    You can also wash the heating elements of the washing machine from scale (in place of Calgon) during washing or turn on a separate program with 80 grams of citric acid; in this case, the solution will not damage the gaskets - the concentration is small.
    At the same time, not only the shades are cleaned, but also extraneous odors are removed
