How to make the simplest armature bearing puller

When repairing various power tools, such as an angle grinder, drill, screwdriver, hammer drill or jigsaw, it becomes necessary to change the bearing on the armature. Often he gets stuck and doesn’t want to act. To avoid bending anything, it is better to squeeze it out with a special puller, which is easy to do with your own hands.

Necessary materials:

• profile pipe 80x80 mm;
  
• bolt M8 100 mm;
  
• M8 nuts.

Making a puller

A narrow piece of profile pipe 80x80 mm is used as the puller frame. If it is not available, then the frame can be welded from available scrap metal, so as not to buy a large pipe. On two opposite sides of the profile, using diagonals, mark the centers in which holes are drilled with a 10 mm drill.


A cone-shaped groove needs to be cut into one hole in order to insert the armature shafts into it. An M8 nut is carefully welded onto the hole on the reverse side. It is important not to catch its internal thread by welding. A bolt with a tapered edge is screwed into it.

You can also weld a nut to the head of the bolt so that you can rotate it not with a wrench, but with a lever from a screwdriver, but this is not necessary.When removing the bearing, you only need to make a few turns, so using the wrench will not cause any inconvenience.
Next, if the frame of the puller is made of a profile pipe with a wall thickness of 4 mm, then on the side of the wedge-shaped cut you need to grind down the wall to 3 mm. The fact is that in many anchors the gap between the impeller and the bearing is so small that the sole of the puller does not fit. It’s better to grind everything off at once, and then the tool will fit absolutely any anchor. If the frame is made of a pipe with 2 mm walls, then nothing needs to be ground.
To use the puller, you need to insert the armature shaft into its groove so that the bearing is inside the frame. After this, you need to rest the tapered end of the bolt against the center of the shaft end. The bearing is pressed out by smoothly tightening the bolt.


The use of a puller eliminates the deformation of the shaft, in particular the riveting of its end, which is possible in the case of inaccurate knocking out with a hammer with a punch attached. In addition, this method is silent, as it is not accompanied by impacts. If you use scraps from a profile pipe left over from the construction of a fence in the manufacture of a puller, then all costs will be limited to the purchase of a bolt and nut.
