The bolt can be used not only as a fastening element, but also as a blank for the manufacture of various tools needed in the workshop. Let's consider 4 options for such homemade products.
Wood tap
To make a wood tap from a bolt, you need to cut off its head and then sharpen one edge to a cone. After this, part of the thread height is carefully ground off on the rotating bolt. It is enough to grind the first third of its length.
Next, using a grinder with a cutting disc, you need to make 3 longitudinal cuts along the entire length of the machined thread.
The resulting tap is clamped in a screwdriver chuck and used to quickly cut threads in wood. Thanks to its conical structure, it extrudes the thread, making it dense and strong.
Spring center punch
This tool is used for punching in hard-to-reach places where it is impossible to swing a hammer. To make it you will need a long bolt and a spring of the same diameter. The bolt needs to be cut in half.
On one side, its half with a cap is screwed into the spring.
On the other hand, you need to tighten the second part of the bolt, first sharpening its edge to a cone.
To use a center punch, you need to position its tip on the workpiece, pull back the bolt with its head and quickly release it. When retracted, the spring will transfer acceleration energy to the lower part, so the tool will leave a dent. Ideally, before use, harden the tip of the punch so that it becomes dull less often and can punch hard steel.
Mini hand saw - blade holder
From an M10 bolt, a long nut and a jigsaw file, you can make a small hacksaw for working in hard-to-reach places. To do this, the edge of the bolt needs to be sawn lengthwise by 25 mm.
Then a long nut is screwed onto it and a nail file is inserted into the slot. When the nut is twisted back, the blade is clamped tightly.
The resulting tool, unlike conventional hacksaws, does not bend during operation. It can become indispensable where a grinder, drill or jigsaw cannot reach. At the same time, the tool does not damage the nail file, so it can always be returned to the jigsaw.
Drive for taps and heads
You can make a crank from a long nut and 2 bolts. To do this, a hole is drilled in a long nut (welded from two ordinary ones), after which bolts are inserted into it.
Next, you can insert bits or taps into the hole and tighten them with bolts. The cost of manufacturing such a knob is a penny, but it really works well.
