From an ordinary stationery knife you can make an excellent, and most importantly, useful mini saw. Which can be put in a toolbox and carried, since carrying an ordinary large hacksaw with you is extremely inconvenient. Also, a mini saw will come in handy on a hike; throw it in your backpack and you will be happy.

Upgrading a utility knife into a pocket saw

All you need is a medium-sized stationery knife itself - it is the most common and a regular blade for a hacksaw for metal. “Everything about everything” will take a minute, maybe two.

So, we remove the blade from the knife body.

We place the canvas next to the blade, measure the required size and make a mark with a marker.

The canvas breaks off very easily; just hold it at the mark in a vice and bend it in any direction. Just be extra careful - wear safety glasses, as a piece of metal may fly off if it breaks.

The original hole in the blade fits perfectly into the knife holder instead of the previous blade.

We insert everything into the body and close it with a cap.

Now you can carry it with you even in your pocket.

If desired, the mini saw is taken out, the blade is pulled out and secured with a latch.

It cuts everything: both wood and metal.

I think this is a very useful thing, especially during a hike.

Advice: the tip of the blade can be sharpened using sandpaper, and as a result the stationery knife itself will not lose its function, but will acquire a new one.

I'm glad that the sheath is not damaged, but I think the canvas was damaged.... The idea is good, but for small jobs. There was a comment about this: FIND READY-MADE SCABARDS IN A CHEAP GOODS STORE AND MAKE FROM THEM WHAT YOU WANT IN DIFFERENT OPTIONS.

I decided to make a clone of the knife, but with a larger knife width. To eliminate the backlash, I installed a screw with a stop from a screw with an angle for the thumb. The screw also increased the fur. Pressure strength. When removing the rear cap, the retainer fell off, did not get lost, and secured it with a clamp. We also had to limit ourselves to one half of the canvas fixation, which was previously lost somewhere.

With a fresh mind I came up with the idea of strengthening the structure with two clamps. The first one is non-removable, installed at the level of the canvas by drilling two holes in the front at a distance of 1 cm from the edge and pulling it from the back, thereby strengthening the entire structure. The second one is removable with a pawl, I install it at the back for additional support. When working with a knife that has been sharpened like the AUTHOR's, but with a smaller angle, I insert the blade into the sheath up to the blade. At the front it serves as a safety lock against accidental release. The dog is behind, under the index finger.
