A medical mask is a necessary thing during colds and infections. Protective masks may disappear from pharmacies for a while, but you can always get out of a difficult situation and sew a medical mask yourself. To make your work easier, you can use a sewing machine, but if you don’t have one, there is no need to be upset. You can make personal protective equipment using hand sewing. This mask can be used repeatedly; you just need to wash it and you can use it again.

1. On the wrong side of the fabric, you need to draw an even rectangle 19x22 cm.

2. The fabric must be placed on top of each other so that you can get another rectangle. For convenience, you can secure the material with needles. Now you need to cut out the blanks according to the drawing. There should be two of them.

3.It is necessary to apply a bandage or gauze in several layers to one of the blanks on the wrong side. 4 layers are considered the most optimal.

4. Place the second piece on top. Now you need to bend the edges of the mask, starting from its long side. It is best to do this in two approaches: first, bend it 0.5 cm, and then so that the gauze falls into this fold. You need to ensure that the gauze gets under the stitching when hemming. Afterwards, the folded fabric should be ironed well so that the material does not unbend during sewing. Hem the edges in a convenient way. This must be done on all four sides.

5. The next step is to make folds. A mask of this size can easily form two folds. They need to be hemmed on the sides.

6. It's time to sew on the elastic bands. For a woman’s face, two 19 cm elastic bands will be enough. The choice of length is individual; if it seems that this length will be too small, then you can use elastic bands a couple of cm longer.
