To carry a knife comfortably and safely when fishing, hunting or mushroom hunting, it is optimal to use a belt sheath. It will never fall out of them, and most importantly, it will always be at hand. A belt sheath for a knife of absolutely any shape can be made from PP or PVC pipe, and it will literally take 1-2 hours.

Materials and tools:

  • PP or PVC pipe of suitable diameter;
  • marker;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • mounting hair dryer;
  • blade.

Scabbard manufacturing process

Having chosen a tube of a suitable diameter for the width of the blade, you need to cut the workpiece from it. To do this, the knife is applied to it so that its handle protrudes 10-20 mm beyond the edge.

Marks are placed on the pipe along the line of the beginning and end of the blade.

The mark for cutting the workpiece is made 10 mm further than the tip. On half of the handle blank, a part of the tube will be cut lengthwise. The cut line must also be drawn. It is aimed in a semicircle.
Then, using a drill or a hacksaw, the workpiece is cut along the lines.

For ease of cutting, holes can be drilled in the corners of a complex contour for the handle.
Half of the workpiece with a longitudinal figured cut is heated with a hair dryer. It needs to be heated until pliable, leveled, pressed down with a flat object and left for 10 seconds until it cools.

On the resulting blade you need to make 2 longitudinal cuts to form a loop for the waist belt. The most convenient way to do this is with a drill.

Then the blade at the place of the cuts is heated with a hairdryer and any strip of a suitable size is inserted into the loop. When the loop hardens and takes shape, you can easily insert the waist belt into it.

Then the second half of the tube is heated with a hairdryer and a knife blade is inserted into it. Immediately after this, you need to press it down so that it presses against the blade. To do this, the tube is applied to the edge of the tabletop and compressed with a piece of board. The deformation is carried out in several approaches until the sheath completely takes the shape of the blade.

Having given the workpiece the desired shape, you need to cut and sand its edges so that they are rounded and smooth.

Marker marks and inscriptions on the pipe can be scraped off with a regular razor blade or washed off with a solvent. The result is a completely white sheath, very similar to the factory plastic one. Depending on the pipe used, they may also be gray or black. Fixation of the knife in them is ensured by full compliance with the shape; in addition, the tip of the blade is clamped by the bottom of the sheath, so it will never fall out from shaking.
