If you need to drill just a few holes in metal or wood, there is no point in buying a set of drill bits that will then lie around idle. For this task, it is more profitable to make a crown of the required diameter from an old socket head.
Materials:
- socket head;
- threaded rod M10;
- M10 nuts – 2 pcs.
Crown manufacturing process
Markings are made on the head along the outer side opposite each face. The length of the marks is approximately 5 mm. Then you need to connect adjacent marks with oblique lines. They are drawn descending from left to right.
Next, you need to cut the longitudinal marks on the edges with a grinder, and then make cuts along the jibs. The result is teeth.
Then the shank is installed on the crown cup. A 100 mm long piece of hairpin is used as it. The stud is sharpened on one side and clamped to the head with nuts. Next, everything is welded so that it does not unwind.
The resulting crown can be drilled into boards, lining, laminate, chipboard, fiberboard, drywall and, most importantly, sheet metal.The bit is quite good at drilling 2mm steel sheets even though its teeth are not hardened. This is a very successful inexpensive alternative to a purchased cutter.
