Materials:
- steel plate 15-20 mm or thicker;
- bolts M14-M20 – 2 pcs.;
- unnecessary or broken metal drill.
Machine manufacturing process
You need to cut 2 identical blanks from the available steel plate. Their parameters are selected depending on the width of the sheet steel parts that will be punched. If it’s just stripes, then a blank size of 10x20 cm is sufficient.
The corners of the plates are drilled with exact symmetry; it is important that the holes on both workpieces coincide.
First, a thin drill is used, then a larger one, since drilling such thick steel in one pass is difficult and time-consuming.
In one of the plates, a thread is cut for prepared bolts.
The threaded workpiece is drilled in the center with the same drill that was used previously. On the contrary, a blind hole is made in the second plate. It should be slightly larger in diameter than the cross-section of the die that will be used.
Next, take the drill that was used to drill the blind hole, and on its shank a groove 10-15 mm long is made in the shape of the required stamp.
This will be a working tool that directly pierces the metal. Then the drill is cut slightly below the groove.
The stamp is inserted into a blind hole. After this, the plates are joined together and fastened with a pair of bolts. Now, when placing blanks between them under the stamp and tightening the bolts, the machine will be able to pierce them.
If you have to pierce thick steel, then 2 more bolts are screwed into the press to distribute the load and not break the threads in the bottom plate. Together they will create a multi-ton load and push through almost anything, especially if you put a long lever on the wrench. In the future, the press with the stamp removed can also be used to compress parts during gluing, when repairing broken chambers and solving other problems where it is necessary to provide powerful compression.
