Such hammers are also called space (or non-reactive) hammers, since they are used by astronauts for repairs. This is a simple, but for some reason not a cheap tool, so in order to save money, it is quite justified to make it yourself.
Materials:
- handle blank;
- pipes 40 mm and 50 mm;
- plastic blank;
- metal balls.
The process of making a spinning hammer
A piece 50-60 mm long is cut from a 40 mm pipe. A 60-80 mm piece will be required from a 50 mm pipe. The workpieces are trimmed whenever possible, ideally on a lathe.
On a 40 mm piece of pipe, you need to round one end and weld it into the center at a right angle to the second workpiece. The weld seam is cleaned.
Hammer heads are machined from a plastic blank. On one side they taper to an internal pipe diameter of 50 mm.
One striker is packed onto the tee.
70% of the volume of steel balls is poured into the hammer. It is then closed with a second striker.
Next, the wooden handle is turned and installed. To prevent it from flying off, you need to hammer in the pin.
