Based on scrap ABS plastic, you can prepare glue, which, in addition to gluing, can also work as a filler for voids and chips in plastic products, or used as polymer paint. It is also suitable for casting various plastic parts. This is a universal composition with a wide range of uses, which is not at all difficult to prepare.
Materials:
- scrap ABS plastic;
- acetone.
Glue preparation process
To prepare the glue, you need to cut scrap ABS plastic into small pieces. You can determine that a product is made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene by the corresponding inscription on the label. Typically, this plastic is used to make housings for household and office equipment. The shade of the finished glue depends on the color of the scrap used. If, for example, you need a black composition, then you need to use dark plastic.
The crushed scrap is collected in a glass jar with a lid and filled with a small amount of acetone. In about 12-24 hours, depending on the size of the pieces, the plastic will completely dissolve. You just need to open it and stir it sometimes.
If the composition turns out to be very liquid, then you can hold it with the lid open to ventilate excess solvent. In this form, the glue can already be used for gluing ABS products. It is very convenient to do this by drawing it into a syringe.
To enhance the reliability of the connection, before applying the glue, it is worth coating the contact surfaces of the plastic with pure acetone in order to melt them a little for better polymerization. This composition is also suitable for casting, and can also be used to paint any surface.
