If the front brake caliper of a car is jammed, then there may be a shortage of lubricant in its guides. By periodically lubricating them, you can get rid of this common malfunction of the car’s brake system.

Eliminating the cause of a jammed car brake caliper

To do this, remove the caliper and check the movement of its guides. It turns out that the upper guide is still quite movable, but the lower one is jammed tightly. It turned out that the cause of such permanent souring was a burst of anther. Therefore, it is necessary to check the integrity of the anthers more often.

The upper guide of the caliper of the car’s brake system, although it has limited movement, is clear that the lubricant has thickened greatly, and the integrity of the boot may soon be a thing of the past.

We clean the guides from various deposits, wash them, check their condition and thoroughly polish them so that they fit freely into the holes and move in them without jamming, both in the longitudinal and circular directions.

Also, every time you replace the brake pads, you should check the brake cylinder. To do this, press the brake pedal several times so that the cylinder moves to the forward position.

Then use a screwdriver to carefully lift the edge of the boot and apply caliper grease under it in a circle. Then we press the cylinder all the way inside using a simple device several times.

Lubricate the polished caliper guide and put on a new boot. Apply plenty of grease under the boot, on the pin and in the hole on the caliper. We insert the pin into the hole and tuck the end of the boot into the annular groove. We repeat the same operation with the second boot.

We install the brake pads in the position intended for them and put the caliper in place, which should move easily along the guides without jamming or wedging.

The bushings on the guides must self-align when the bolts are tightened to avoid misalignment of the pins, which will certainly lead to jamming of the pads. After tightening the bolts, the caliper should still have free play.

Testing the brake system. To do this, press the brake pedal several times in a row and release it. After this, we rotate the brake disc and make sure that it rotates freely without much effort.

Checking the caliper in motion. We drive 20-30 km and feel the rims. If the disc is hotter on one wheel, this means that the caliper is sticking, but perhaps the wheel bearing is jamming. So we still need to figure it out.
