For assembly furniture, gluing panels and other joinery products, wooden dowels are used. They are usually found on sale in sizes 8x30 mm and 8x35 mm. Sometimes dowels of a different diameter or length are needed. Make yourself such a device, and you can cut them into any configuration from scraps of boards and slats.

Materials:

  • planed board or scrap of furniture board;
  • old ones from a jigsaw - 2 pcs.

Conductor manufacturing process

It is necessary to cut the base of the conductor in the form of a rectangle from a planed board or a piece of furniture board. Its length should correspond to the length of the working part of the jigsaw blade with teeth, the width should be 60-70 mm.

Along the workpiece in the center with a distance of 20 mm from the edge and the same pitch, holes are drilled in one line for cutting dowels.

They are made in increasing diameter. What kind of holes will be made, such dowels will be obtained. The optimal diameters will be: 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm.

On the board you need to make 2 longitudinal cuts passing along the edges of the holes. Their depth should correspond to the width of the jigsaw saw blade without teeth.

The cut must be made with a narrower circular disk than the thickness of the jigsaw blades. To prevent the workpiece from moving during sawing, it can be temporarily glued to the workbench with double-sided tape.

Jigsaw blades are inserted into the resulting cuts, and the jig is clamped to the edge of the workbench with a clamp.

Next, you need to cut out a square strip of slightly larger diameter than the required dowel.

Its edge is rounded with a knife to clamp it into the drill chuck. Then, starting the rotation, you need to drive the workpiece through the hole. It is important here that the direction of its rotation goes to the edges of the teeth of the blades, so if the cut does not occur, then they need to be turned.

The resulting round profile can be sanded using sandpaper. It is then cut into dowels of the required length. After this, they can be used for their intended purpose.
