The quality of machining of parts strongly depends on the reliability of their fastening. In everyday life, this is usually done using a hand vice, the use of which requires time and effort. But you can make an electric instant-clamping vise, activated by pressing one button.

Will need

For this you will need:
  • unusable microwave;
  • steel corner;
  • copper insulated wire;
  • two-component epoxy resin;
  • power cord;
  • power supply with 12 V and 10 A output;
  • plastic tube;
  • liquid dye;
  • cardboard template, etc.
To work you will need: vice, grinder, drilling machine, jigsaw, grinder, welding, hand jigsaw, screwdriver, chisel and hammer, clamps, soldering iron, hair dryer, electronic scales, etc.

Manufacturing process

We remove the casing and bite off the wires between the discharge capacitor, transformer, magnetron and control panel. We dismantle the high voltage transformer and add a second one of the same type to it.

Using a grinder, we cut out the welds in the grooves of the core and remove the plate adjacent to the base with a chisel and hammer.

We remove the primary winding from the core leg and put it aside. Then we remove the incandescent and step-up windings.

We make a rectangular frame from a steel corner.

We make the outer shelves of the long sides figured for fastening.

We tighten the frame with clamps and weld it from the inside at the corners of the contact line.

We place two cores with primary windings in the frame, having soldered the ends of the windings in advance. We connect the ends of the windings with insulated copper wire. We also solder power supply wires to the inputs.

Place adhesive tape on a flat surface. We place a frame on it with two cores with primary windings, soldered with wires and separated in the center by a plastic tube.

We glue the outside weld seams at the corners and the perimeter of the contact of the frame with the adhesive film.

Mix parts A and B of two-component epoxy resin in the required proportion and fill the spaces between the cores and frame with it, adding dark dye.

To speed up the hardening of the epoxy resin, blow it with hot air from a hair dryer. Separate the frame with the cores and hardened resin from the adhesive film.

We cut off the legs of the cores protruding from the resin with a hand jigsaw.

Add epoxy resin flush with the upper edges of the frame and the ends of the core legs and also dry it with a hairdryer.

We attach the resulting assembly to the work table of the machine and trim the ends of the legs of the cores with a metal file flush with the resin and the top of the frame.

We polish the working surface of the electric vice with a grinding head and rub a little lubricant into it using a napkin.

We attach the homemade product to the desktop and connect a power supply with an output of 12 V and 10 A to the electrical circuits of the machine and the control panel.

When voltage is applied to the electric vise, the workpiece is securely fixed and can be cut, drilled, sanded, etc., without worrying about the strength of the fastening. When the power is turned off, the part is instantly released.

Such a vice has plenty of strength.
