Decorative brickwork looks great near the fireplace, on the wall of the balcony or in the hallway. Usually it is made simply from gypsum tiles, but there is a cheaper way. Let's look at how to imitate brickwork using tile adhesive.

Materials:

  • Tile adhesive;
  • masking tape 19 mm;
  • deep penetration primer;
  • color for paint;
  • acrylic paint.

Imitation application process

On a plastered, primed wall, you need to make marks vertically with a pencil in increments of 8 cm. You need to draw horizontal lines along them, along which the seams between the rows of bricks will run. From below, you can immediately retreat 10 cm from the floor for the plinth. It will still cover the masonry, so there is no need to imitate it there.

Next, you need to draw vertical lines in 13 cm increments to get a regular checkerboard pattern. After this, you need to make a narrow masking tape to imitate seams. To do this, buy 19 mm tape and cut it in half lengthwise.

The horizontal lines are covered with tape. If the wall is well primed, then it sticks well.Then vertical lines are glued, taking into account the masonry pitch, so that the seams are staggered.

Tile adhesive with a layer thickness of 5 mm is applied to the wall taped with tape. You need to cover no more than 3-4 m2 at a time. Then the texture is applied to the fresh glue. To do this, apply a crumpled plastic bag to it.

After creating the texture, you should tear off the tape under the glue. Then the next section is plastered. It is advisable to have time to complete 1 wall per day, otherwise there will be problems with the masking tape coming off.

After 1.5-2 hours, you need to lubricate the sharp edges of the bricks with a wet brush. If this moment is missed, then you can smooth out the frozen edges with a spatula.

After a couple of days you need to paint the wall in the desired color. If your budget is limited, then you don’t have to buy paint, but only pigment. It is diluted in a primer and applied with a brush.

You can paint the wall with a black primer, and after it dries, lightly go over it with a roller moistened with white acrylic paint. It will only cover the bulges, and the depressions will remain dark.

You can add depth to the wall by applying a tint of brown and coffee dye in a primer to the paint.

Finally, you need to paint over the seams with a thin brush.

Since tile adhesive is used, and not putty or gypsum tiles, such an imitation does not necessarily require coating with interior varnish.
