Nothing cuts sheet metal as quietly and quickly as a good pair of shears. Neither a jigsaw nor a grinder can compare with them. High-quality table scissors are too expensive. Therefore, if they are not used for professional activities, then it is better to make them yourself.

Table scissors manufacturing process
Scissor blades can be made from truck springs.
When hardened, this metal becomes very hard, which is what is required. Since the spring is bent in an arc, it needs to be heated to remove elasticity and leveled.
Then 2 blanks of the required length are cut from it. Since the longitudinal chamfer of the spring is rounded, it must be ground off on a grinder. The sharpening angle is immediately set on the aligned edge.
The power parts of the scissors must be cut from sheet steel with a thickness of at least 10 mm. For this purpose, it is better to first draw the frame blanks, levers and arcs on cardboard, and make templates so that the finished parts fit exactly together.
The cut and polished workpieces need to be drilled and bolted.
Knife blanks are screwed to the levers. To do this, they are pre-drilled. To hold them, 2 bolts are enough. Here it is important to understand the principle of fastening, cut out the eyes for this and then weld them correctly.
The next step is to make supports for the knives by welding square frames onto the arms. Next, large blanks of the knife frame are welded together through a plate. For stability, cross members from the corner are welded from below.
The cutting part of the spring knives must be heated red-hot and hardened in oil. Now they can be installed in place, and the arcs with the handle can be screwed on.
Such a machine with knives made of springs, using a pipe to extend the handle, cuts steel with a cross-section of up to 2.5 mm like butter. At the same time, the cutting edge remains smooth without chipping. The main thing is not to skimp on metal during manufacturing, and also to do the correct heat treatment of the knives, and the tool will turn out to be indestructible.
