From an old brass tap you can make an excellent tip not only for a soldering station, but also for a regular soldering iron. For this you do not need a lathe, which in fact not everyone can have. The entire production will take no more than 15 minutes of your precious time.

Will need

  • Drill or screwdriver.
  • File.
  • Angle grinder.

Making a soldering iron tip from a crane

We disassemble the old brass tap and unscrew the stem from it.

We clamp the rod in the chuck of a drill or screwdriver. Turn it on at maximum speed and use a file to grind off the serpentine thread.

The hat falls off, it won't be needed.

We put a grinding wheel on the grinder. We fix the grinder and turn it on. We sharpen and shape the tip of the future sting.

In factory form.

Now all that remains is to drill a hole for the thermocouple using a drilling machine.

That's all, the tip for the soldering station is ready.

We put it on the thermoelement.

Screw on the metal casing.

We're making a sting.

Now you can start soldering.

As you probably already guessed: a sting in this way can be made not only from a tap, but also from any piece of copper or brass rod.

The brass "dissolves" in the solder. I do not advise...

everything would be fine, but... inside such tips, where the heating element is, scale forms over time, preventing the tip from warming up, the same applies to the so-called. copper tips from China. Normal tips have a pressed tube inside (probably steel, since it is magnetic), which prevents the formation of scale to some extent.
