When sawing laminated chipboard or other wood with a jigsaw, chips and torn edges inevitably form on the edge of the saw. To avoid this, carpenters usually use various life hacks, which are usually associated with modifying the cut location, but in this life hack we will talk about modifying the tool itself, and not the material before sawing.

Necessary materials

  • A piece of any plastic 1-3 mm thick.
  • Double sided tape.

How to modify a jigsaw for sawing without chipping

Take a piece of plastic and cut a rectangle out of it to fit the size of the jigsaw sole.

Using the same jigsaw, we make a cut in the rectangle by about two-thirds.

All that remains is to glue the plastic to the sole with double-sided tape.

That's all - the tool has been modified and now cuts without chips. Yes, it was incredibly easy.

When sawing, we press the jigsaw well against the surface and chips will not form, since the glued plastic creates pressure on the edge and the wood particles do not fly apart.

In the photo you can clearly see the difference in cutting with and without the modified tool.
