At a dacha or farmstead, a chain-link mesh may be needed for a variety of purposes. In order not to spend money on the purchase, we will make a simple machine with a manual drive for weaving it from steel wire, which will save a lot of money. Metal for making a machine can be found in your workshop or in a landfill. You also need to be able to handle simple metal tools.

Will need

Materials:
  • a piece of steel pipe;
  • steel strips of different thicknesses;
  • bolts, washer and nuts;
  • steel wire.
Tools: grinder, dremel, drilling machine, sandpaper, welding machine, pliers and wire cutters, two-color paint, etc.

The process of making a manual machine for weaving mesh netting

We wrap the round pipe 5-6 times with paper tape along a helical line, leaving a narrow gap between the turns. The main thing is to maintain the same winding angle and constant gap width.

Using a grinder, we make a through helical line on the surface of the pipe along the trajectory specified by the tape, which is removed after the cutting is completed.

We remove the burrs from the helix with a Dremel and round the outer edges.

To process the pipe from the inside, we roll sandpaper into a tube, fix one end of it in the chuck of a drilling machine, and, pulling the other down, insert it into the pipe.

We turn on the machine, and holding the pipe from spontaneous rotation, we give it a reciprocating movement vertically. As a result, the sandpaper removes burrs and smoothes the edges on the inside of the screw thread.

We cut a strip slightly smaller in width than the inner diameter of the pipe, but slightly longer. We weld a bolt to one end of the strip by the head in the longitudinal direction. Place the washer on the bolt and screw on the nut.

We insert the strip into the pipe, rest the washer against the end of the pipe, pull the strip towards itself by the bolt and in this position weld the washer to the end of the pipe.

Use a grinder to remove the annular part of the washer protruding above the surface of the pipe. Screw the nut onto the bolt without resting on the end of the pipe. We counter the first with the second nut, pressing them together with wrenches.

In a narrow steel strip, we drill a hole at the end and weld a nut, and weld a rod vertically to the other end of the strip on the same side as the nut.

We bend the strip slightly in two places so that the nut and the base of the rod are located in two different parallel planes.

We screw the end of the bolt welded to the strip inside the pipe into the nut of the strip with the rod, which should be on the outside.

We weld a strong plate of sufficient thickness tangentially from the outside to the pipe between the helical line and its end.

After painting, the manual machine is ready for use. We secure it to the force plate in a vice.We bend the end of the wire with a hook and, through the beginning of the helical line on the pipe, we put it on the edge of the strip and rotate the plate with a handle.

As a result, at the output, the initially straight wire takes on a zigzag shape with bend angles of approximately 90 degrees.

Having made the blanks of the required length, we connect them together, rotating one blank around the other, engaging each zigzag.

We twist the ends of adjacent wires and bite off the ends so as not to get hurt when installing the chain-link mesh.
