Sometimes, to brew a mug of tea, you have to fire up a large stove or potbelly stove. This is especially noticeable in a country house where there is no gas. With some old iron and some tools you can make a mini potbelly stove. The design requires a minimum of firewood and will help you quickly boil the required amount of water or heat up breakfast.

The process of making a mini potbelly stove

We take a pipe and cut a 10 cm piece out of it on a metalworking machine. We clean the resulting piece from the outside and at the ends to a shiny metallic color.

Using sandpaper as a ruler and a corner, we draw the outline of the future door measuring 4 cm x 4 cm. We place the drawing at a distance of 2 cm from the edge of the pipe so that 4 cm remains from the other edge of the square.

We make cuts along the lines using a bench saw and a grinder, but do not cut at the corners.

We weld a small canopy to the future door.

We cut the square at the corners using a grinder with a mini-circle for metal so that the door opens on the welded overhang.

We place the resulting element on a piece of metal 2.5-3 cm thick, and draw a circle from the inside along the pipe. Using a grinder, cut out a round piece along the line.

There should be three such parts: the upper and lower parts, as well as a grate for drafting and removing ash.

We clean the round parts, put the upper and lower parts aside. On the third part we apply oblong stripes and use a drill and grinder to cut along them. The result is a lattice.

We try the grille on the pipe, and at the level of the bottom of the door we make several bulges inside the pipe. This is necessary so that the grille stays at the lower level of the door. If it is necessary to clean the potbelly stove from ash, the grate is removed.

We mount the remaining two round parts to the ends of the pipe on both sides and weld them. We thoroughly clean the structure from external bulges.

Take a metal tube with a diameter of 2 cm, measure 9 cm and cut it off.

Take a square pipe 2 cm x 2 cm. Place a round pipe perpendicular to it and apply a half turn at the end. We cut along the line with a grinder so that the round pipe fits snugly against the square one.

At the junction along the contour we make marks on the round pipe. Use a grinder to cut out the excess element along the lines.

We connect the elements together using a welding machine. We weld the hole with a prepared piece of metal. We clean the element that must be sealed - this is the future chimney of the potbelly stove.

Cut the square pipe at a distance of 3-4 cm from the round pipe.

On a structure with a door opposite it in the upper part, we cut out a hole for the chimney. We weld the square pipe to the structure with the door. We clean it up.

We weld legs 3-4 cm in size to the bottom of the potbelly stove. They can be made from a piece of reinforcement.

We weld seals made of softer metal to the doors. We attach the latch, which can be made from scraps of metal, and also add a spring for a tighter closure.

We drill three holes for traction under the door of the mini-stove.

A mini-stove for heating food and drinks in metal dishes is ready.

It requires a minimum of firewood and has a unique aesthetic appearance.

Buy dry fuel. And cheaper and easier.

This is possible, of course, but for example, using a piece of galvanized profile is cheaper

It’s such a thickness to heat because of the mug and the chimney is too small, you’ll suffer more with it, it’s beautiful, but there’s no need
